PASSPORT

In order to obtain a Chilean passport you must meet the following requirements:

You must be Chilean

Bring your previous passport and your Chilean Identity Card (if you have one). If the Identity Card is not valid anymore you must also apply for a new one.

1  Passport-size photograph in colour

In the event that your previous passport is lost or stolen, you must report it to your Local Police Detachment, obtain a stamped copy of the report or original letter form the Police, stating that you reported the loss of your passport.

If you do not have a previous passport, Chilean Identity Card, or are not registered at the Consulate, it will be necessary for the Consulate to forward your fingerprints to Chile in order to verify your identity.

Children under the age of 18 years requesting a passport must have the authority from both parents or the person who has legal custody over them

Passport fee: US$ 83.00 (32 pages), US$ 103 (64 pages)

The passport takes about 2 to 4 weeks to arrive from Chile by Diplomatic Pouch. If you need the passport urgently, you have the option to pay an additional US$ 20.00 to have it couriered to the Consulate General.

IDENTITY CARD

The Chilean Identity Card can be obtained at the Chilean Consulates.

LEGALIZATION OF DOCUMENTS

A) In order to legalise a document issued by a private government organisation, it must be previously legalised by one of the following:

Canadian notary public (located in the yellow pages of the telephone book under "Notaries-Public").

Law Society or Society of Notaries Public of the Province

An Officer of a Government Department whose specimen signature is registered at this Consulate (e.g.: Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages; Ministry of Education).

Please note that the documents have to be legalized by the corresponding Chilean Consulate where the document was issued. Documents issued in the Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon, will be legalized by the Consulate General of Chile in Vancouver.

SCHOOL,COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATES, TRANSCRIPTS, ETC.

These documents must be authenticated by The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, 125 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1A 0G2, Telephones: (613) 995-0119 and (613) 992-6602.

Once authenticated by The Department of Foreign Affairs they have to be legalized by the Consulate General of Chile in Vancouver (Documents issuedin British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon Territory, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories) Fee: US$ 12

CERTIFICATES FROM THE CHILEAN CIVIL REGISTRY (Chilean Vital Statistics Office)

Birth Certificate

Marriage Certificate

Death Certificate

Police Certificate

In order to request a Certificate, the applicant must apply in person at the Consulate with his/her passport or Chilean Identity Card.

Cost of each Certificate: US$ 5.00

If the applicants information is on line, it takes only minutes to obtain.

In rare occasions a certificate must be requested in writing. If that is the case, the certificate arrives from Chile in 10 to 12 weeks. The fee of this method is US$ 3.

 VETERINARY AND PHYTOSANITARY CERTIFICATES

If you want to take your pet to Chile you must first obtain an International Veterinary Certificate from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. You should obtain this certificate 1 week before your travel date.

You must have this document legalized by the Consulate of Chile. See LEGALIZATIONS, elsewhere on this website.

Fee: US$ 12.-

If you want to take plants, plant parts or seeds to Chile you must first obtain a Phytosanitary Certificate from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

You must have this document legalized by the Consulate of Chile. See LEGALIZATIONS, elsewhere on this website.
